Misconceptions surrounding the retreading industry are very abundant. Public perception is that retread tires are less safe than new tires so confidence in the retread industry would be minimal.

Retreads are not popular in any industry because of the lack of confidence in safety.  FICTION

Retread tires are safe, dependable, and cost less than comparable new tires. Retreads are used on all types of vehicles with the largest use being in the trucking industry.  Retreads are the replacement tire of choice for many truckers, as nearly half of all replacement truck tires are retreads. According to the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, retread truck tires represent a savings of over $3 billion dollars annually for truckers and trucking companies in North America.

Some of the other vehicles that use retreaded tires may surprise many, but their use proves there is no safety concern surrounding the retread industry. Retread tires are safely used on the drive wheels of school buses, fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles. In addition, 80% of all aircraft tires in service in the United States are retread tires.  The U.S. Postal Service also uses retreads for their fleet.

These different industry uses show that retread tires are popular because of their safety and savings.  FACT
