TIRE ROTATIONS ARE CRITICAL TO THE LIFE OF YOUR TIRES

Tires are your vehicle’s ONLY touch to the road. One of the simplest things you can do to take care of them is have your tires rotated regularly. Many people will purchase new tires and not drive away truly realizing how critical this is to the life of those new tires.

Tire rotation is an important service when it comes to maintaining the performance and safety of your vehicle. Your tires’ contact patches with the pavement are in use during every single drive, and in every weather condition.

Depending on whether the vehicle you’re driving is front, rear, or all-wheel drive, the tires will wear at different rates. The driven wheels often exhibit quicker rates of wear because they have more work to do. A front-wheel-drive car uses its front wheels to steer, brake, and put down the power to the roadway, plus carry the weight of an engine and transaxle.

By rotating your tires, you give the tires a chance to even out their wear. This gives you extended life out of your tires. You should have your tires rotated about every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Proper rotation not only helps even out wear and extend the tire life, but it allows a great chance to inspect your tires’ outside and inside shoulder for damage.

Problems your service center may find during an inspection include cupping and blistering. Tire cupping is more common in older vehicles with aging suspension systems, and it will show uneven wear patterns in the tread. Cupping will affect a vehicle’s ride, steering, braking ability, and of course, cause the tires to wear rapidly. A blistered sidewall is a bulge in the sidewall.  This may result from road hazards such a pothole or other road imperfections. A tear may occur inside the tire and that tire gets pinched. The air may then get into the structure of the tire causing the bulge in the sidewall. If undetected, it could result in tire failure.

If you have any doubts about correct tire rotation, consult the owner’s manual, or talk to your service center. Our experts at Raben Tire are happy to explain the importance of tire rotations.
